Matt’s first father’s day! Wow! SO exciting for him. Parenthood is starting to feel a little bit more natural for the both of us. It took some practice but we’re getting there and we love every minute of it! For Matt’s first father’s day I decided to take him and Holden on a little trip to Lancaster, PA. Ever since we stumbled upon it during a motor home trip with Pop and Gigi, Matt has always wanted to go there for a weekend. So that’s what we did!
We stayed in a great hotel in the center of Lancaster. It put us in walking distance from everything that we wanted to do. There were two markets in Lancaster where there was some local produce being sold, some nice restaurants and a few shops. We especially liked the arts initiative that Lancaster promotes. They have about 15 pianos placed around the city for the public to play. They say that they want instruments to be in all of the children’s hands in Lancaster. To go along with that, on Friday night, they had a concert from 5:30 to 8:30 that was free to the public that consisted of local artists performing. It was a neat experience. We also enjoyed some tasty ice cream that the local creamery!
While we were there, we also stopped by Lancaster Brewing Company. Matt is a big fan of their Milk Stout so we went on a tour of their facility and ate lunch. We liked it so much, we went back the next day for an appetizer (portabello sliders…yum!) . Holden slept through the tour of the brewery but we made sure we took a picture before we left — unfortunately we could not get the sign and Holden’s head in the picture ourselves so you will have to settle for the little piece of his green hat in the shot!
Father’s day itself consisted of pampering Matt with good food! I made him banana pancakes in the morning, penne pasta with braised garlic and radicchio for lunch, and asparagus ragout for dinner. No meal is complete without dessert so I made mini black bottom cupcakes and brownie sundaes!
